The 1940 Vrancea earthquake...   The team is made up of five reasearchers from the Technical University of Civil Engineering Bucharest (UTCB). The idea behind this research project is that an improved framework for the design/structural assessment of buildings may only be achieved provoded that the community expectations in case of a major earthquake in Vrancea source are known. The methodology foreseen for this project involves a large-scale survey conducted on the population of Bucharest. The responses will be converted into community performance parameters and further on into community performance objectives. The transition from performance parameters to performance objectives involves the use of earthquake scenarios obtained from stochastic simulations as well as objective assessment of quality of structures and construction materials used in Romania. The project will investigate the impact of the performance objectives on the structural design. An important component of the CobPEE project is the publication of ISI papers in order to certify the research methodologies and the obtained results.
